Serenity makes more money from DVD than from box office

After disappointing movie ticket sales, it seemed that Joss Whedon’s Serenity would end up as a failure in the books. Think again. Over 2 million DVDs sold, plus rentals and TV rights add up to more than $60 million. Could this convince Universal to get a Special Edition out, or even a sequel?

I hope it does make a difference to Universal or to somebody. Maybe we need to start going straight to DVD for some of the more esoteric movies?

  1. After what FOX did to yet another Joss Whedon masterpiece, it is good to see that the community went all out to support this truly awesome show. I hear he’s already lining up a couple of sequels, and that is just great news.
